1. (SBU) During a September 12 meeting, Acting Head of the MFA
Directorate for Human Rights Valentina Kravljanac told us that her
government has yet to elaborate its stance on the issues that will
be discussed at the upcoming UN General Assembly Third Committee
session (reftel). Kravljanac said that while Serbia generally
follows the position of European Union countries, given "current
political considerations" Serbia must act on a case-by-case basis in
accordance with its own interests. Kravljanac thanked us for
sharing the U.S. positions, which she promised to convey to the
leadership of her ministry.
2. (SBU) Kravljanac indicated that Serbia will not adopt a formal
position on Third Committee issues until closer to the start of the
session, and would need to see the text of country-specific
resolutions before commenting. She had no comment on the impact of
Serbia's observer status in the Non-Aligned Movement on the stances
it will adopt.
