UNCLAS BELGRADE 000565 DEPT FOR EUR, PRM (M. NICHOLSON) SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL SMIG AORC SR SUBJECT: SERBIA: RESPONSE ON IOM DIRECTOR GENERAL CANDIDATE REF: STATE 54562 We presented information about and urged Serbia's support for IOM director general candidate Ambassador William Swing to Serbian MFA Human Rights Counselor Marina Ivanovic on June 6. Ivanovic told us that Serbia had not made a final decision on which IOM director general candidate to support and had not sent voting instructions to its delegates. Ivanovic said the government was inclined to support a regional representative, so it was leaning toward backing Luca Riccardi. She said the government would make a final decision by early the week of June 16 and would let us know then. BRUSH
