1. (SBU) On January 15, 2008, the Ambassador chaired a
meeting of the Emergency Action Committee (EAC) at 1700 hours
to discuss today's explosion that hit a Diplomatic vehicle
injuring a U.S. Embassy Lebanese driver. The Ambassador,
DCM, AID, RSO, POL, GRPO, DAO, MGMT, PAO, CONS attended.
Beirut EAC agreed that a follow-up meeting will occur on
January 16, 2008 at 0900 hours.
Two issues were decided on: 1) that the Ambassador's
farewell event at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut is cancelled;
2) and that all moves off Embassy compound are cancelled
until further notice.
The Embassy plans to open for business on January 16.
