Poloff made the point that China should use its influence
with the Burmese regime to achieve results on the release of
political prisoners and progress towards a meaningful
dialogue with the opposition and ethnic minorities. Wang
offered no substantive response but promised to convey U.S.
concerns to his superiors as soon as possible.
