Agencies Division Director Yang Shaokun reftel points urging
China to support the candidacy of Michel Sidibe for new
Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on
HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Yang noted that China is an observer, not
a member, of the UNAIDS Programme Coordination Board. In
principle, China supports an effective UNAIDS, but has not
received complete information on all the possible candidates.
U.S. views will certainly receive "serious consideration,"
Yang assured PolOff.
