(C) PolOff on June 26 delivered to MFA reftel points seeking China's support for a U.S.-drafted UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) to renew the mandate of the UNSCR 1267 monitoring team. MFA International Organizations and Conferences Department UN Division Deputy Director Sun Xiaobo said that China supports "in principle" renewal of the mandate and supports "in principle" the enhancement of the monitoring team's role. Sun said there may be some specific issues upon which China disagrees, but he expressed full confidence that that through discussions the United States and China can find a solution to any disagreements. After PolOff pressed Sun to specify potential areas of disagreement, Sun said experts at the U.S. and Chinese UN Missions would be best prepared to discuss the issues in detail.
