(S) Embassy Iran Watcher delivered reftel demarche to outgoing and incoming Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Security Affairs Division Directors, Yusef Mammadaliev and Nurat Suleimeinov, on October 7. Iran Watcher delivered all reftel-suggested points, and provided the MFA officers with copies of the official State Department press release announcing the designation of IRISL and its subsidiaries as proliferators subject to sanctions in accordance with UN Resolutions 1737, 1747, and 1803. ¶2. (S) Sulemeinov promised to investigate the extent of commercial activities (if any) of IRISL and/or its business agents in Azerbaijan, including any possible commercial activities involving IRISL or its subsidiaries and GOAJ-owned companies, as well as GOAJ policy on mandatory cargo inspections, and provide a comprehensive response to Iran Watcher at an early date.
