SUBJECT: Oil Ministry announces qualification results

The Ministry of Oil announced on April 14 the outcome of its
pre-qualification process for the international oil companies (IOCs)
that had submitted qualification applications from January 9 to
February 18, 2008. A total of 120 companies of various
nationalities submitted applications, and 35 qualified. Qualifying
IOCs can participate in the first licensing round for oil and gas
fields, which the Directorate stated will be announced in due time,
when the IOCs will receive a Letter of Invitation to this effect.
The Petroleum Contracts and Licensing Directorate also said it will
continue updating the list of qualifying companies, especially those
that did not pass, to allow as many IOCs as possible to participate
in the next licensing rounds (following the first round).
