¶1. (SBU) PolOff delivered reftel statement on the U.S.-EU
Prisoner of Conscience Declaration on June 17 to Loukas
Tsokos, First Secretary at the MFA D1 Directorate, UN and
International Organizations. We expressed our appreciation
to the EU for co-sponsorship of the declaration at the UN and
urged Greece to issue a similar statement domestically and
through its UN Mission in New York. Tsokos thanked us for
the statement and said he would pass our request to
decision-makers at the MFA.
¶2. (SBU) PAO passed the statement to MFA Spokesman, George
Koumoutsakos, and likewise urged him to make a statement.
