1. A/Political Counselor delivered reftel points on March 13
on support for the recent appointment of Ambassador Kai Eide
as the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan to
Ambassador Alexios Christopoulos, Director of the MFA A10
Directorate for Asia and Oceania. Christopoulos responded
that Greece was pleased and supports the Eide appointment He
also promised that Greece would encourage an EU public
statement in support of Ambassador Eide.
2. Christopoulos followed-up March 17 to report that the EU
had already welcomed the Eide appointment in its March 10
GAERC conclusions. Greece does not expect further EU
statements on Eide's appointment, but will support any effort
by NATO to make a similar statement.
