DISCUSSES JUNE 2009 MEETING WITH GREEK MFA

1. (U) On December 22, Poloff, together with Dutch
Ambassador Von Rij and Russian POLOFF Dimitriy Novikov,
delivered reftel demarche on the Fifth Global Initiative
Meeting in June 2009 to Ambassador Tryphon Paraskevopoulos,
Head of the MFA D1 Directorate for the UN and International
Organizations. Also in attendance from the Greek MFA was
Counselor Dimitris Papandreou, the primary officer
responsible for the Global Initiative. Paraskevopoulos
appreciated the delivery of the demarche and had only one
substantive comment, namely that the Republic of Macedonia be
officially designated at the conference under the name
"Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia." Poloff, as well as
Ambassador Von Rij and Russian political officer Novikov,
agreed to pass this request to their respective ministries.
