1. (C) A/Political Counselor delivered reftel points related
to requirements for elections support in Afghanistan to
Theodoros Daskarolis, Deputy Director of the MFA D2
Directorate for NATO Affairs. Daskarolis replied that Greece
is aware of the requirement and following the force
generation process carefully. Greece is currently reviewing
how it might provide additional assistance in Afghanistan.
He said he could not comment at this time as to whether
Greece would be prepared to provide forces to help fill
election support requirements, adding that any potential
Greek contributions would be announced through NATO's normal
force generation process. Daskarolis was pessimistic,
however, that Greece would be prepared to deploy forces
beyond its current regional caveat restricting forces to the
Kabul region.
