1. (C) On August 8, PolAssistant delivered reftel points on
the New Burma sanctions to MFA Deputy Director of the A10
Directorate for Asia and Oceania Antoula Balanou. In an
August 11 follow-up, Balanou mentioned that the most recent
GAERC meeting of EU foreign ministers had not addressed the
issue of further tightening of EU sanctions on the Burmese
regime. She added that if the subject was proposed in future
sessions, Greece would have no objections and noted that
generally Greece was in compliance with the measures and
decisions taken by the EU.
