1. (SBU) Turkey will abide by all provisions of UNSCRs 1737,
1747 and 1803, including those pertaining to travel, MFA Iran
Section Head Mehmet Sekerci told us April 9. He said would
convey our reftel points to his superiors. According to
Sekerci, all the individuals' names subject to "vigilance and
restraint" or an outright travel ban have been conveyed to
the Interior Ministry, which is responsible for implementing
international travel restrictions.
2. (C) In order to help ensure effective Turkish
implementation of the UNSCRs Sekerci recommended that we
share, if possible, any passport and descriptive information
with Turkish authorities concerning the listed individuals.
Iranians are not subject to tourist visa requirements, and
nearly one million visited Turkey last year. It is a
challenge to restrict an applicant at the port of entry based
solely on his/her first and last name, he said. Useful
information for Turkish authorities would include date of
birth and mother's and father's name.
