1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.
2. (U) During the November 8-15, 2008 reporting period, no security
official was killed but three were injured in clashes in Yuksekova,
Hakkari Province, on November 9. The total number of security force
casualties for the year through November 15, 2008, was 137 killed
and 234 injured.
3. (U) During the same period, no PKK terrorist was killed but one
was captured in Van on November 10 and an additional 12 PKK
terrorists surrendered. According to official TGS website figures,
through the second week of November, the number of PKK militants
killed this year was 644, the number of those captured was 145, and
the number of those who surrendered was 150.
4. (U) During the reporting period no civilian was killed but one
was injured in a landmine explosion in Lice, Diyarbakir Province, on
November 15. The total number of civilian casualties for the year
through the end of the second week of November was 45 killed, with
another 248 wounded.
