1. (SBU) This is another in a series of weekly reports on PKK
violence in Turkey. Our primary source is the Turkish General Staff
(TGS) website, which documents contacts and clashes with the PKK, as
well as casualties incurred.
2. (U) During the November 1-7, 2008 reporting period, no security
official died or was injured. The total number of security force
casualties for the year through November 7, 2008, was 137 killed and
231 injured.
3. (U) During the same period, four PKK terrorists were killed in
clashes in Dicle, Diyarbakir Province. According to official TGS
website figures, through the first week of November, the number of
PKK militants killed this year was 644, the number of those captured
was 144, and the number of those who surrendered was 138.
4. (U) During the reporting period no civilian was killed but two
were injured, including one by an IED in Uludere, Sirnak Province,
on November 2 and another by a landmine in Eruh, Siirt Province on
November 6. The total number of civilian casualties for the year
through the end of the first week of November, was 45 killed, with
another 247 wounded.
