(C) Polcouns delivered reftel demarche to Jamal Al-Shamayleh,
director of the Foreign Minister's private office, on March
3. Shamayleh was not familiar with the details of
developments in Eritrea but listened intently to polcouns'
explanation. Shamayleh said he was confident that Jordan
would be supportive of the U.S. position on UNMEE but needed
to consult within the Foreign Ministry and others in the GOJ,
particularly with those involved with Jordan's participation
in peacekeeping operations, before providing a formal reply.
