In response to reftel, this message provides information on Embassy Amman's organization and resources regarding energy-related work: ¶A. Sections of the Embassy Handling Energy -- Economic Section: 8 Total Staff -- Environment, Science, Technology and Health (ESTH) - 2 Total Staff -- Foreign Commercial Service (FCS) NOTE: USAID is currently assessing potential areas for renewable energy assistance in the future. ¶B. Positions of Embassy Employees Covering Energy -- 1 Economic Counselor: 5% of time -- 1 Economic Officer (Deputy Econ): 20% of time -- 1 Econ OMS: 2% of time -- 2 Econ Locally Engaged Staff (LES): 2% of time -- 1 ESTH Officer: 5% of time -- 1 ESTH LES: 5% of time -- 1 Senior Commercial Counselor (Department of Commerce) -- 1 Foreign Commercial Service LES (Department of Commerce) ¶C. Descriptions of Positions -- Economic Counselor: provides high-level intervention on energy matters and supports senior USG visits to Jordan. -- Economic Officer: facilitates development of a potential civilian nuclear energy program in Jordan (i.e., facilitate negotiations on nuclear energy cooperation agreements); reports on energy developments within the country (i.e., privatization of the refinery); serves as a liaison to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and other public and private sector energy-related agencies in Jordan; facilitates dialogue or meetings between the Government of Jordan (GOJ) and U.S. energy companies interested in investing in the energy sector in Jordan; briefs the Front Office and other USG visitors on energy developments in Jordan. -- Econ OMS: provides administrative support for energy-related visits of USG officials, including preparation of diplomatic notes, travel arrangements, etc. -- Econ LES: arranges for and attends meetings with Economic Officers, gathers information and data on energy-related matters, including energy relations between Iraq and Jordan. -- ESTH: tracks and reports on renewable energy policies and use in Jordan; meets private sector and government officials engaged in renewable energy; and meets academic and scientific researchers undertaking renewable energy research. -- FCS: liaises with U.S. companies interested in investing in the energy sector and perform advocacy when needed.
