UNCLAS AMMAN 003311 SIPDIS DEPARTMENT FOR PRM/ANE E.O. 12958: DECL: N/A TAGS: PREF JO SUBJECT: Monitoring Cooperative Agreement SPRMO08CA097, Antares Foundation-Jordan ¶1. (U) On December 14, Antares Foundation-Jordan held the first of a series of workshops in Amman for NGO staff working in psychosocial/mental health programming. RefCoord attended the opening session of the PRM-funded workshop. Attendance exceeded AntaresQ expectations with 26 participants attending the opening day. PRM partners JRC, CARE, and IMC participated in the workshops along with five other organizations. ¶2. (U) The one-week workshop was presented by Megan King, Head of Relief and Development for the Czech organization People in Need. War Trauma Foundation, acting in conjunction with Antares, supplied trainers and training material for participants, who included Iraqis and Jordanians. Antares Foundation Regional Director Leslie Snider attended the workshops to evaluate the efficacy of the training. ¶3. (U) Workshop trainers presented information in English, and a non-professional translator translated the proceedings into Arabic. Course materials were supplied in Arabic to all participants. The course work was designed to provoke discussion between psychosocial workers while presenting new techniques to assist beneficiaries and to deal with the effects of exposure to war trauma suffered by assistance workers and staff. ¶4. (U) The workshop addressed both objectives of the cooperative agreement requiring the survey and training of at least 20 social workers from a minimum of five organizations. Antares will present another four workshops for social workers during the course of the cooperative agreement. Visit AmmanQs Classified Web Site at http://www.state.sgov.gov/p/nea/amman BEECROFT
