SUBJECT: JORDAN UNDECIDED ON IRAN NO-ACTION MOTION

1. (C) Ambassador and IO A/S Hook raised the issue of
no-action motions with Jordanian FM Bashir on November 1
(septel). A/S Hook urged Jordan to vote with the U.S. to
allow a resolution condemning Iran's human rights record to
go forward to a vote. If Jordan was unable to do so, Hook
counseled abstaining or even absenting itself from the
proceedings as it had done last year. The FM declined to
give a definitive answer on whether Jordan would either
absent itself, abstain, or actively support the motion in
committee this year.
2. (C) The DCM raised the issue separately with MFA
Secretary-General Mohammed Al-Khalidi. Khalidi said he would
take the issue under advisement and return to us with an
answer.
