1. (C) PolCouns delivered ref A demarche to Nabil Masarweh,
Acting Director of Foreign Minister Bashir's private office,
on September 21. (Note: Bashir departed for UNGA on Friday
and was unavailable to receive the demarche. End note.)
Masarweh agreed that neither Iran nor Syria were appropriate
BOG members but offered no substantive response. He said he
would communicate the points to FM Bashir in New York and
consult with Jordan's Ambassador in Vienna, Makram Queisi.
2. (C) Comment: The GOJ has shown no inclination to publicy
break Arab consensus in favor of Syria, but has suggested
that it would not support Syria in a secret ballot situation
(ref B). Post will follow up with senior GOJ interlocutors.
