(C) Jordanian Finance Minister Hamed Kasasbeh confirmed to
EconCouns May 7 that bilateral discussions with the GOI on
Iraqi debt to Jordan were ongoing. He reported that two
meetings with his Iraqi counterpart had occurred, as well as
a meeting between King Abdullah and Finance Minister Bayan
Jabr. Jordan has proposed canceling the interest on Iraq's
$1.3 billion debt, not $2 billion as reported ref A, and
rescheduling payment of the principle. Kasasbeh said the GOJ
is waiting for a response or counter offer from the Iraqis.
No further bilateral meetings have been scheduled, and
Kasasbeh believed it unlikely the two sides would meet before
the May 29 meeting in Stockholm.
