1. (C) Pol/C delivered reftel demarche April 21 to Jamal
Al-Shamayleh, Director of the Foreign Minister's private
office. Shamayleh noted Jordan's support for peacemaking
efforts, and said that Foreign Minister Bashir would lead the
Jordanian delegation in London. He added that Jordanian
Minister of Industry and Trade Amer Al-Hadidi would head up
the Jordanian delegation to the May Bethlehem investment
conference.
2. (C) Shamayleh characterized Jordan's contribution to the
AHLC as "moral support" and called for additional
strengthening of President Abbas' position in his conflict
with Hamas, saying "Israel can do more; Abu Mazen needs
something tangible."
