(C) Polcouns delivered reftel demarche to Jamal Al-Shamayleh,
Director of the Foreign Minister's private office, on April
¶21. Note: MFA Director of Negotiations Nawaf Tell, mentioned
in reftel, was traveling. End note. Shamayleh expressed
complete agreement with the USG view that in keeping with
past practice, civil society should select its own
representatives and the forum should focus on reform themes.
He said that he would discuss the issue with FM Bashir and
consider channels for discussion with the UAEG. Post will
follow up, including with the Ministry of Planning and
International Cooperation, which is also involved in BMENA
activities.
