II. COMPLETED ACTIONS FOR THE REPORTING PERIOD.


A. SITE ASSESSMENTS AND MEETINGS DURING REPORTING PERIOD:

(SBU) On March 20, the Advisor attended the 2008 Symposium on the
Chemical Weapons Convention. The Symposium had speakers from the
United States and Europe, and it was attended by Taiwan interagency
and industry representatives. A detailed read-out on the Symposium
has been provided to appropriate Washington personnel.


B. BLUE LANTERN:

(U) No checks were conducted during the reporting period.


C. TRAINING CONDUCTED DURING REPORTING PERIOD:

(U) A preparatory meeting for Internal Control Program Software
development, implemented by the Department of State through a
contractor, was held on March 27 and 28. On March 26, Taiwan's
Export Control Task Force of the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT),
Ministry of Economic Affairs, hosted a small group discussion on the
technical aspects of the software development for the U.S.
contractor, local sub-contractor candidates, and BOFT's information
systems personnel. BOFT agreed to provide a customization guideline
to AIT by mid-April. This document is necessary to set work
parameters for a local sub-contractor before one can be hired.

1. (U) A five-day Target and Risk Management Training, implemented
by Customs and Border Protection, is being planned for the week of
April 14 in Kaohsiung.


2. (U) A three-person delegation of Taiwan officials is expected to
attend the International Transit and Transshipment Conference in
Morocco from May 20 - 22.
