1. Post provides the following response per reftel requests.
2. The Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research
(NIOMR) and the Nigerian Navy are the designated Nigerian government
agencies for issuing approval for marine research in Nigerian
waters. The NIOMR provided post with the following information and
procedures for obtaining required GON approval for marine research.
a) Obtain the application form from:
Captain G. Inusa
Hydrographer, Nigerian Navy
Hydrographic Office
5 Point Road
Apapa, Lagos
Tel: 01-5876325 or 01-5875715
b) Send the completed application form and accompanying documents
to:
Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR)
Attn: Executive Director/CEO
Wilmot Point Road, Bar Beach
Victoria Island
PMB 12729, Lagos
3. NIOMR will review the application, research proposal, and all
accompanying documents. It will then send the application package
to the Head Hydrographer of the Nigerian Navy, along with its
recommen$Q61OcP

4. NIOMR emphasized that Navy security personnel (supposedly for
protection from piracy, etc...) and possibly Nigerian scientists
might accompany the research team. In addition, the final report
must be shared with the Nigerian government.
