SUBJECT: INL BODY SCANNERS HANDED OVER TO THE NIGERIA NATIONAL DRUG
LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, (NDLEA).
INL office at Embassy Abuja has completed the installation of Body
Scanners at the four major international airports in Nigeria, Lagos,
Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt. A hand over ceremony of the equipment
was performed by Ambassador Robin Sanders. On March 27, 2008 a
ceremony was held to handover the scanners for the Abuja and Kano
International Airports. Since the installation of scanners, the
Abuja and Kano airports have recorded a total of 33 arrests. The
handover ceremony for the Lagos and Port Harcourt International
Airports was conducted on June 15, 2008. It is expected that this
sophisticated equipment will shut down Nigeria's international
airports to drug courier activities.
