(C) Post requested formal agreement to the date of March 11
for the Gulf Security Dialogue (GSD) in Abu Dhabi through two
channels: 1) letter to GHQ and 2) diplomatic note. GHQ
replied formally on February 4 with a letter agreeing to
March 11 for GSD (and March 12-13 for the JMC -- Joint
Military Commission). The note simply states that the UAE
welcomes the third round of GSD on that date. MFA contacts
state that GHQ has the lead on this dialogue, and that MFA
will send representatives on the dates proposed, in
coordination with GHQ. Neither GHQ nor MFA offered immediate
input on agenda items or meeting structure.
