1. (C) Post delivered reftel to Chief of National
Criminal Police at the Ministry of Interior, Darko Dundovic,
who is Head of Delegation to the INTERPOL General Assembly.
Dundovic was familiar with the case and told Post that the
GOC would support the GOA request and EC position. He
indicated that the MFA has not been active in this issue,
deferring instead to the Ministry of Interior's professional
evaluation of the case.
2. (C) While Dundovic told us that they evaluated the case on
its law enforcement merits, he inquired as to why the GOA did
not issue a diffusion message through INTERPOL while waiting
determination of red notice status. According to him, the
diffusion message would have permitted sympathetic countries
to provisionally arrest the individuals. Dundovic was not
aware of any Iranian approaches on this issue.
