1. (C) Pol External Chief on May 15 delivered reftel demarche
on Kosovo UNSC action to Piotr Siebeneichen, Balkans Unit
Chief in the MFA European Department. Siebeneichen
reiterated his government's strong support for the Ahtisaari
Report and an expeditious resolution of the Kowovo status
question, including early action by the UN Security Council.
He also expressed appreciation at receiving the detailed U.S.
position for UNSC action, parts of which could be used
strengthen Polish arguments in EU and bilateral contacts with
other European states. While stressing that Poland's
position on Kosovo was firm and unchanging, Siebeneichen was
eager for any further information on U.S. thinking which
might provided additional fodder for Polish lobbying on
behalf of UNSC action.
