We delivered reftel points to Darius Staniulis, head of the
MFA's Human Rights and NGOs Division, on July 19. Staniulis
had heard there was a USG-endorsed candidate for IOM Director
General, and was happy to receive information on him.
According to Staniulis, the GOL has not yet considered who to
vote for in next year's election. He said that Ambassador
Swift sounded very qualified, but added that the current
Director General had done an excellent job. Staniulis
recognized that the current DG's pursuit of a third term
could be seen as a problem.
