Irena Skardzuviene, head of the MFA's UN and Council of
Europe division, provided us on July 24 the following
information about Lithuania's participation at this year's
UNGA. Responses are keyed to reftel.
A. Attendance of the Head of State:
-- President Valdas ADAMKUS will attend, unless unforeseen
events change his plans.
-- Arrival and departure dates are not yet determined. He
will be present for the General Debate.
-- His spouse, Mrs. Alma ADAMKIENE, will attend.
-- Interpretation will not be needed.
B. Attendance of the Head of Government.
-- Prime Minister Gediminas KIRKILAS will not attend. (If
the President does not come, the Prime Minister is likely to
come in his place.)
C. Attendance of the Foreign Minister.
-- Foreign Minister Petras VAITEIKUNAS will attend.
-- Arrival and departure dates are not yet determined. He
will be present for the General Debate.
-- The Foreign Minister's spouse is not likely to come.
-- Interpretation will not be needed.
D. Attendance of other host country VIPs.
-- There are no plans yet for any other VIPs to attend. The
GOL is still finalizing its plans for the delegation.
E. Attendance of the Foreign Ministry official responsible
for IO affairs or official who is a regular interlocutor of
regional assistant secretaries or Department principals.
-- Ms. Dalia KRAULYTE, Director, Department of Multilateral
