(SBU) Acting DCM presented reftel information to MFA
International Organizations Department Deputy Director
General Saleumxay Kommasith. Saleumxay said he had not yet
received information from the Lao UN Mission regarding the UN
reform proposals being reviewed by the Fifth and Sixth
Committees. He added that he had been assigned to the Sixth
Committee during his first year at the UN and knew how
complex many of these issues can be. Saleumxay said he would
ask the Lao Mission to report on the state of play of the
ongoing review. When Saleumxay noted that the Lao UN Mission
might not have members with strong legal backgrounds, Acting
DCM urged Saleumxay to have the Lao UN Mission contact USUN
to discuss in detail flaws in the reforms being reviewed.
