1. (SBU) EconPolCouns presented ref (a) demarche on February
14 to Austrian MFA Middle East and Africa Director Ralph
Scheide and Africa head Caroline Gudenus.
2. (C) Gudenus said the Somalia mission (AMISOM) was
extremely important, and Austria would back the EU's
extension of support to the mission. She said (as reported
ref b) that the European Union was moving toward releasing 15
million Euros to support AMISOM "as soon as the UN Security
Council approves a resolution." Gudenus said she expected
the EU to take its action soon.
