On November 14, EconPolOff delivered reftel demarche to
Elisabeth Riederer, MFA Director for International Gender
Issues, and thanked the GoA for its co-sponsorship of the UN
resolution on Condemning the Use of Rape as an Instrument of
State Policy. Having just spoken with the Austrian
delegation in New York, Riederer conveyed that this
resolution will likely be voted on tomorrow and the outcome
is still uncertain. She remains hopeful that it will be
adopted by concensus without amendment. She also stated that
this issue is very important to Austria and it has worked
hard to keep the text from being diluted through more
generalized language.
