On October 24, EconPol Counselor and EconUnit Chief delivered
reftel points to Josef Mayer, Chief of the Ministry of
Economics' (MoE) Foreign Trade and European Integration
Section (U/S-level). Mayer agreed with the U.S. position
that IPR issues should be handled at the WTO, not through the
WHO Secretariat. The Ministry of Health (MoH) has the lead
on preparations for the November 5-10 Intergovernmental
Working Group (IGWG) on Public Health, Innovation, and
Intellectual Property. Mayer promised to weigh in his this
MoH colleagues prior to the IGWG to ensure the MoE's views
are incorporated in Austria's position.
