1. EconPolOff delivered reftel demarche on August 7 to
Engelbert Theuermann, Director of the MFA's Human Rights
Division. Theuermann appreciated the active role of the
United States in the United Nations Committee Against Torture
and praised the valuable work of Felice Gaer on that
committee.
2. Theuermann thanked post for bringing the upcoming
election to his attention, but said that at this early stage
Austria has yet to decide which candidates it will support.
Nonetheless, Theuermann believes that Felice Gaer will be a
strong candidate, given her background and experience, and
that Austrian support of her candidacy is almost certain.
