APPEAL IN LEBANON AND EMERGENCY APPEAL IN WEST BANK AND GAZA

1. (SBU) Acting EconPol Counselor met on June 14 with Werner
Stenzel, the Deputy Head of the MFA's Humanitarian Assistance
Department, to deliver reftel points. Stenzel said that,
unfortunately, Austria would not be able to contribute to
either the flash appeal for Lebanon or the emergency appeal
for the West Bank and Gaza. Stenzel explained that the GoA
does not have a budgetary item for extraordinary humanitarian
assistance. Stenzel noted that the GoA had pledged Euro 1
million to UNRWA at the January Paris conference.
