3. (C) Austria hosts no expatriate communities of Egyptians,
Uzbeks, Mauritanians, Somalis, Palestinians Sudanese or
Chinese Uighurs. However, small numbers of individuals of
these nationalities or groups are present in Austria.
4. (C) Beyond its close ties with other EU member states,
Austria does not have relationships which it could exploit to
persuade other countries to receive detainees. Although
Austria maintains long-term assistance relationships with a
small number of "priority" aid recipients, these
relationships would not deliver sufficient political
penetration to have an impact in a case such as this one.
5. (C) As instructed separately, Embassy will report septel
on the status of resettlement efforts in Austria.
