(C) On January 26, Ambassador delivered reftel demarche on
the African Union Chairmanship vote to MFA Director General
for the Americas and Asia M'hamed Chelaifa. Noting that the
Tunisian Ambassador in Washington Mohamed Nejib Hachana had
informed the MFA of the GOT position, Chelaifa said the GOT
was considering the information and that he would contact
Ambassador with further details when available. (Note:
Chelaifa did not appear aware that Hachana had indicated to
NEA/MAG that the GOT was unlikely to vote for Sudan. End
