demarche October 21 and followed up October 23 with MOFA
South America and Caribbean Division Principal Deputy
Director Akifumi Mizuguchi. Mizuguchi said that Latin
American and Caribbean Affairs Director General Akira Miwa
already intended to raise the issue with Bolivian President
Morales during their October 22 meeting in La Paz. According
to Mizuguchi, MOFA was able to pass our request to DG Miwa
before the meeting. Although his division had not yet
received a report from the meeting, Mizuguchi was confident
that Miwa had expressed our shared concerns about Bolivia's
relations with Iran to President Morales.
