¶1. (C) Embassy Tokyo Political Officer delivered reftel
demarche and a copy of Department's statement on Riad Seif to
MOFA First Middle East Division Syria officer Hitoshi
Ishizuka, who replied that the Japanese Embassy in Damascus
is in the process of checking the details of Seif's case and
that there are internal discussions under way at MOFA about
how or whether to react. Ishizuka stated MOFA will give
Seif's situation careful consideration based on the
information received from its embassy.
