¶1. (S) Embassy Tokyo Political Officer and Deputy
Financial Attache conveyed reftel demarche on August 30 to
Ministry of Foreign Affairs International Counterterrorism
Cooperation Division official Miyako Ishimura and Ministry of
Finance Legal Office Deputy Division Chief Shunichi
Fukushima. Sharing information on terrorist finance
designations is particularly important for the Government of
Japan since it is not a member of the United Nations Security
Council, and Japan appreciates United States efforts to
pre-notify, Ishimura noted. Both counterparts thanked
Embassy officers for the information and agreed on the need
for continued cooperation.
