1. (SBU) Embassy Tokyo Political Officer conveyed reftel
demarche to Ministry of Foreign Affairs International
Counterterrorism Cooperation Division Deputy Director Miyako
Ishimura and Ministry of Finance Legal Office Deputy Division
Chief Shunichi Fukushima on August 9, 2007. Both
counterparts thanked Embassy Officer for the information and
agreed on the need for continued cooperation on terrorist
finance issues. In addition, Japan will continue to support
and cooperate with the United States if the United States
proposes a new UNSCR to classify terrorists and terrorist
organizations, Fukushima noted.
