(C) EMBASSY Tokyo Political Officer followed up on reftel
demarche August 2 with MOFA UN Policy Division Officer Kazuya
Mori. Mori said that the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau
would be taking the lead within MOFA on generating a possible
demarche to UNSYG about UN Policy towards Taiwan, but that
the bilateral cooperation should take place in New York. The
U.S. delegation to the UN could expect to hear from the
Japanese delegation "within a few days," Mori finished.
