(C) EMBASSY Political Officer on April 28 informed MOFA
Second Middle East Principal Deputy Director Matano that
President Bush would encourage Prime Minister Abe to provide
significant additional funds for Iraqi reconstruction and to
announce the new pledge at the May 3 Sharm El-Sheikh
International Compact on Iraq meeting. Matano had no
immediate response, but promised to forward the information
to the appropriate authorities.
