1. (C) Embassy passed a non-paper (reftel) regarding
designation of Iran's Defense Industries Organization (DIO)
on Monday, April 2, 2007 to Ministry of Finance Legal Office
Deputy Division Chief Shunichi Fukushima, who noted that such
information was "precious". POLoff delivered the non-paper
to Second Middle East Principal Deputy Director Motosada
Matano and invited his comments. Finally, ESToff spoke with
Non-Proliferation, Science and Nuclear Energy Division
official Isami Takada on 2 April. Takada responded by
thanking us for the statement and said that Japan will
continue to try to work with the U.S. on this very important
matter. We will continue to report responses to E.O. 13382
and any follow up questions from our counterparts.
