Kenichi Masamoto. Masamoto said that Japan is considering
whether to toughen its stance towards Zimbabwe subsequent to
the events of March 11. Japan believes that Zimbabwe should
not be isolated, and so its approach has been less strict
than "some other countries," he stated. While it would be
very difficult for Japan to adopt the same statement as the
United States, it may issue a separate statement condemning
the actions of the government of Zimbabwe. Masamoto said he
would try to get an answer by the week of March 26 from his
superiors, who are currently in Kenya.
