¶1. (C) Charge d'Affaires and poloff delivered reftel
demarches to MFA interlocutors April 19 and 20. Laurent
Stokvis, MFA Director of the Americas Department, told CDA
that the U.S. and the Netherlands were "in sync" on Sudan.
He added that Development Minister Bert Koenders' meeting
last week with U.S. Presidential Special Envoy Andrew Natsios
went extremely well.
¶2. (C) Poloff spoke separately with Huub Buise, head of the
Horn of Africa office of the Dutch MFA. Buise thanked us for
the detailed troop support suggestions, ref B. While he was
not prepared to offer specifics, his initial reaction was to
agree entirely with the approach. He underlined the
importance the Dutch attach to recruiting as many additional
African ground troops as possible.
