1. (SBU) EconCouns conveyed reftel demarche on February 14
to Marianne Sinke, Senior Policy Officer responsible for
World Food Program (WFP) issues, Dutch Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. AgCouns and EconCouns also discussed the issue with
relevant officials at the ministries of Economic Affairs and
Agriculture Affairs. Sinke said the GONL shared USG concerns
about the election of Zimbabwean Ambassador Muchada to the
WFP's Executive Board. She said the Dutch would oppose her
election at the WFP Executive Board meeting in Rome on
February 19-21.
2. (SBU) Sinke shared that the Dutch together with the
Canadian Government had also been reaching out to members of
the WFP Executive Board to raise concerns about giving
Zimbabwe a leadership role within the WFP. Sinke will attend
the meetings in Rome.
